•48% of domestic violence victims will delay or refuse leaving an abusive home out of fear of leaving their pets or livestock behind

•85% of women entering domestic violence shelters reported that their partner had threatened, injured or killed their pet

Littlegrass Ranch is the only program of it's kind in the United States offering sanctuary and transitional housing for women who have horses or livestock. We are located in the Texas Hill Country, but serve any horsewoman (or woman who has a large animal issue that prevents her from seeking shelter) no matter where she lives currently. In fact, since launching this website in 2009, we have had service inquires from 28 states and website traffic from 49 states and numerous foreign countries.*

We are raising funds to built a "green" ranch facility that will offer individual housing for famlies and animal stabling. While we work toward that goal, we are maintaining a network of SAFE HOUSES for women and horses that are available NOW for qualified applicants.

Animals that we will shelter :

First priority

Horses and donkeys
Cattle & pigs
Llamas and alpacas
Goats and sheep
Camels, large exotics evaluated on a case by case basis.

Second priority

Dogs and puppies
Domestic cats and kittens
Birds, including domestic fowl
Rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, ferrets, etc.
Reptiles and amphibians^
Aquariums
Other pets evaluated on a case by case basis

We will attempt to locate temporary housing if we are not able to accept a particular animal.

We will not accept predators such as large cats or wolves, wildlife, nor any animal that is prohibited by law from being in the possession of a private party.
